Longtown Primestock Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 18 prime cattle, 0 young bulls, 16 over thirty month cattle, 3,223 prime lambs and 5,331 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 24th July 2014.
A small show of prime cattle due to the weather with averages less on the week but a poorer offering of quality which lead to the dip in price. The sale topped at 211.5p for a Limousin bullock shown by D.J. Garthwaite & Son, Wyseby Hill Cottage.

A fantastic show of 3,223 prime lambs sold to an average of 173.3p per kilo on par with all other centres this week as many more lambs pour onto the market. Lightweight lambs continue to sell at recent high rates, also best export lambs easily sold. Top of 205p per kilo for Beltex from High Greenhill & Cheviots from Golden Lane and to £94 per head for Texels from Fingland.

2nd K Lumbley, Newbiggin weighing 43kg selling at £70 to MacTaggart Bros.
3rd Messrs Rutherford, Bleatarn weighing 40kg selling at £70 to Dunbia.
A larger show of 5,331 cast ewes and rams met a very similar trade on the week.
