Longtown Primestock Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 26 prime cattle, 4 young bulls, 16 over thirty month cattle, 5,997 prime lambs and 4,595 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 27th November 2014.
A better show of prime cattle saw trade sharper on the week. Top price to 221.5p for a Limousin heifer sold by W. & W. Faulder, Houghton House, others to 219.5p from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn.

Another grand show of 5,997 prime lambs were forward to the usual full ring of buyers, the sale averaged 182.2p (SQQ of 185.2p), up on the previous week. Export and light weight lambs were a fair bit dearer on the week and more could have been sold to advantage. All other lambs similar on the week, with 50kilo plus lambs regularly over £90. Top price per kilo was 265p for Beltex from Low Fauld and to £117 per head for Texels from Walton Woodhead.

The 4,595 cast ewes and rams met a very dear trade being £4 to £5 dearer on the week, especially for larger heavy ewes which were very short of buyers requirements. Many more ewes of all classes needed to meet requirements. Top was £138 for Texel ewes from Felltop.
