Longtown Primestock Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 15 prime cattle, 3 OTM cattle, 4,668 prime hoggs, 13 spring lambs and 3,010 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 30th April 2015.
Prime cattle met a similar trade to last week, once again with new buyers in attendance, many more could have been sold to the vendors advantage.

13 spring lambs sold to £95 per head and 216p per kilo for Charollais from Kimmeter Green. Many more could be sold to advantage with weights not needing to be heavy.

Another grand show of 4,668 prime hoggs were forward to the usual ring of buyers. Although averages were down on the week, trade was better than expected and dearer than most other centres this week. Lightweight hoggs short of buyer’s requirements, many more could be sold to advantage. Best quality export and heavyweight hoggs easily sold. The sale averaged 175.5p overall (SQQ 181.2p).
Top price per head was £95.50 for Texel from Dunjop, and to 227p per kilo for Beltex from The Firs and Cardewlees.

A slightly larger show of 3,010 cast ewes and rams were forward to a full ringside of buyers. Hill ewes, plain ewes and good selling sorts were easily sold, maintaining recent rates. Over fat and Mule ewes proved harder to cash and rams again very dear.
