Longtown Primestock Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 2,516 prime hoggs, 1,045 spring lambs and 3,416 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 4th June 2015.
A small show of OTM and prime cattle were forward to a full ring of buyers. All classes meeting a brisk selling trade and short of buyer requirements. Many more could be sold to advantage.

A much larger show of 1,045 spring lambs were forward to a full ring of buyers. All classes met a strong trade in line with many other centres this week to average 185.5p per kilo. Heavyweight lambs demanded a strong price per head with handyweight lambs keenly sought after. Light weight lambs under 34 kilos met a buoyant trade and are in demand, being short of requirement. Top price of £100 per head for Texels from Netherplace and to 250p per kilo for Texels from Hallmyre.

A larger show of 2,516 prime hoggs were forward to the usual ring of buyers. An excellent show of heavyweight hoggs were again easily sold with all other classes similar on the week. Well fleshed hoggs realising a premium, with lighter plainer sorts harder to cash. Overall sale average of 155.8p per kilo. The sale was topped at £104 for Texels from Powheads and to 178p per kilo for Cheviots from Bloan and Beauly.
