Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C & D Auction Marts Limited had forward 33 OTM cattle, 4,430 prime lambs and 4,691 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 22nd October 2015.
OTMS – Hill cows sell to 160p
An increased entry of 33 cows were on offer to a full ring of buyers with 3 new orders at ringside. Trade was animated throughout with demand strong for all kinds. Topping the sale was a British Blue x Luing at 160p from Philip Roskell with Shorthorn x to 142p from Wamphray. Limousin x cows sold to 136p from Waterhead of Dryfe, Walter Waugh sold others at 125p. Dairy bred British Blues from Elliott family realised 119p. Peter Dixon sold Blonde d’Aquitaine x cows to 115p. As we said last week we have customers for all types. Highland x sold to 83p from Messrs Macdonald. Luing sold to 100p Geltsdale with Galloway to 105p Stell Green. Dairy cows continue to be short of buyers needs with out of parlour types to 87p for a non FABBL from High Dubwath.
Top price per head was £904.40 from Dryfe Farm with others £862.50 from Hallburncroft.
A larger show of 4,430 prime lambs were forward to the usual ring of buyers, a large entry of 45-55kg lambs were forward along with over 1000 light weight lambs, which resulted in the overall average falling back. Good quality export lambs were short of requirements and many more could have been sold. Overall average of 139.6p (SQQ 142.6p).
Top price of £82 per head for Suffolks from Mosshead and to 195p per kilo for Texels from Greenbrae.

A similar show of 4,691 cast ewes and rams were forward to the usual ring of buyers. Heavy weight ewes were easier on the week, especially if fat but good selling ewes met resent rates. All classes of hill ewes remain similar on the week.
