Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 28 cattle, 3,623 prime lambs and 5,556 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 4th October 2018.
Another larger entry of cows was present with an improved show of quality forward and meeting a brisk trade throughout, with more required on a weekly basis. Sale topped at £1,267 for a Limousin bull from J P Lee, Morley Hill, Hexham with cows to £1,079 from the same home. Black and Whites to £989 from Firm of A. Barbour, Dalrioch, Campbeltown.

3,623 prime lambs were a similar quality entry on the week. Buyers were keener with the overall average being 165p, which was much dearer than earlier on the week. Top price per kilo of 220p for Beltex from M R Dunn, Coach & Horses House, Wigton, with several other pens over 200p. Top price per head of £100 for Texel lambs from I Donald, Ashton, Lockerbie. Again all weight of good meat lambs were good to sell.

The 5,556 cast ewes and rams were 1,000 down on the week. Again, buyers were keen for supplies with heavy ewes maintaining late rates with hill ewes a shade easier. Top of £146 for Texels from Sharplaw Farms, Kelso and for Beltex ewes from Viewley. Hill ewes to £65 for Cheviots from Messrs Bernard & Dodds, West Deloraine, Selkirk. Texel rams to £148 from Heatherglen.
