Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 1,843 prime lambs and 2,982 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown onThursday 27th June 2019.
Cast cows continue to sell at recent high rates, with the majority being native bred yet all classes in demand. More required on a weekly basis to fulfill buyer demand. Sale topped at 132p for Angus cows shown by D & Y Wilson, Plumpe, Gretna, with others selling to 130p again from Plumpe and Over Cassock. Top price per head of £1,040 for an Angus from Messrs Wilson.
Another good quality show of 1,843 prime lambs attracted new buyers. Trade was much better than ever expected especially for heavy lambs over 43kg, with many pens selling at £110 and over.
Top price per kilo of 309p for Beltex lambs shown by TR & EA Milburn, Wallend, Greenhead and top price per head of £127 also for Beltex from Wallend.

The 2,982 cast ewes, rams and hoggs were a smaller entry on the week but buyers again keen for supplies. Trade was again excellent. 330 ewes sold at £100 and over to average £123.43 with an overall average of £76.05.
Sale topped at £174 for Texel ewes shown by R Cockburn, Hill of Errol, Perth. Hill ewes to £75 for Cheviots from WN Douglas, Catslackburn, Yarrow and rams sold to £125 for Texels from J Elliot, Roxburgh Mains, Kelso and from RH Bell & Co., Roxburgh Mill, Kelso.
