Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 8,124 sheep comprising of 4,808 prime lambs and 3,331 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 21st November 2019.
A good entry of cast cows continued to sell at recent rates with more required on a weekly basis. The sale topped at £932 for a five-year-old Shorthorn bullock from ER Cook, The Glen, Bonchester Bridge who also sold cows at 115p. Limousin x Galloway cows to 108p from JW Forster & Son, Smithsteads, Bewcastle.
Another large show of 4,808 prime lambs met a very similar trade which has prevailed all week for good meaty lambs. Overall average 184.5p (SQQ 188.5p).
Export weights to 280p for wonderful Beltex lambs from DS & RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Perth, who’s run of 25 lambs sold to average 266p and £114.76. All other very best lambs 220-270p per kilo and many more of these could be sold to vendors advantage.
Commercial lambs sold between 180-190p per kilo. Heavy lambs were a very good trade all selling at £90 plus. Top price per head of £117 also for Beltex lambs from Easter Ochtermuthill.
Light lambs again dear.

A larger show of 3,331 cast ewes and rams attracted strong competition for all classes with everything dearer on the week. 378 ewes sold at £100 and above to average £127.07. Best Texel and Beltex ewes sold at a premium to top at £180 Texels from Chapel Hill Farms. Cheviot ewes to £70 from JG Wall & Sons, Westernhopeburn, Bishop Auckland with rams to £146 for Texels from K Smith & Son, East Greenridge, Lowgate.
