Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 8,235 sheep comprising of 3,712 prime lambs and 4,523 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 23rd September 2021.
A mixed entry of cast cows were forward. The sale topped at £921 for an Angus from EAP Glendinning, Over Cassock, Eskdalemuir. Top per kilo of 110p for a Limousin from J Reed, Knarr, Slaggyford.
More cows wanted for next weeks sale as requested by new purchaser enquiry for continental feeding and finished cows. Please don’t hesitate to contact our auctioneers for further enquiries.
A larger show of 3,712 new season prime lambs were forward sold beyond expectations, easily maintaining last weeks good rates of return being dearer than most centres earlier in the week. Again it was plain to see fed and properly finished lambs received a premium whilst leaner grass types would be better marketed on a Tuesday, albeit feed is a good price but finishers are reaping the rewards for their input.
Best export lambs in short supply and proved very good to sell. Topping price per kilo of 310p achieved for Beltex lambs shown by TR & EA Milburn, Wallend, Brampton.
Heavy lambs also proved very good to cash with all classes wanted for next weeks sale.
Top price per head of £141 for Beltex from T Watson & Sons, High Floweryhirst, Roweltown.
Lightweight lambs of all breeds are in big demand especially better bred texel and beltex lambs. Numbers again are wanted for next weeks sale to satisfy increased purchaser demand.
Included in todays sale was a great run of 389 Easycare tup lambs selling way beyond expectations topping at £81 for a pen of 102 Consigned by M/s J & S Wight Ltd, East Fortisset, Lanarkshire
All classes of well finished prime lambs are keenly sought after on a weekly basis to satisfy an ever-growing customer base here at Longtown. For further enquiries please contact our auctioneers, who will be pleased to take your calls.
