Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 5,131 sheep comprising of 580 prime hoggs, 1,484 spring lambs and 3,067 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 30th June 2022.
A smaller show of cast cows were forward, yet again all classes continue to sell at recent high rates with more numbers required on a weekly basis. The sale topped at £1,465 for a Limousin from PJ & L Dixon, Upperburnmouth, Newcastleton with Angus cows selling to £1,305 from TN Cavers & Co., Sorbie, Langholm.
Top per kilo of 198p from Upperburnmouth, who sold others at 176p. Angus cows to 180p from Sorbie.
A similar show of 1,484 good quality prime lambs were forward, all classes of lambs maintained last weeks high rates of return being very easily sold. More well finished lambs are required in a weekly basis to satisfy and ever-growing demand at longtown. Please don’t hesitate to contact your auctioneers at any time for marketing advice.

A similar entry of 3,067 cast ewes and rams were forward, heavy ewes maintained recent rates of return being firmer than the beginning of the week. Whilst handy weight ewes a serious price being very good to sell to a very busy ringside of 15 competitive purchasers.
Heavy ewes sold to £242 per head for Texel ewes from Messrs Hewson, Burgh Head, Burgh by Sands.
Mule ewes sold to a top of £147 from LE Grice & Son, Newtown, Irthington.
Hill ewes topped at £134 for Cheviots from WJC & SJ Weir, Mainside, Hownam with Blackfaces selling to £125 from A Carruthers & Sons, Peela Hill, Bewcastle.
Rams topping at £235 for Texels from Seaview.
