Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 10,600 sheep comprising of 6,027 prime lambs and 4,573 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 24th November 2022.
A huge show of 6,027 prime lambs again sold to a stronger trade on the week, with lambs full of flesh in massive demand as the divide between fed lambs and leaner types becomes wider still. Selling to top price per kilo of 352p for Beltex lambs shown by J Halliday & Son, Linnhead, Tundergarth and a top price per head of £200 for Texel lambs shown by Highfield Farming, Knock, Duns.

Another large show of 4,573 cast ewes and rams forward, sold to a much increased trade on the week, with lowland ewes being £5-£10 dearer. Topping at £280 for a Texel ewe from Graceside. Charollais ewes sold to £198 from S Turkington, West Lodge South, Melrose.
Well fleshed hill ewes met the trade of the day, with Blackface ewes with meat easily being £10-£20 up, to a top of £108 from JAI & DJ Scott, Brigg, Hexham. Lleyn ewes to £130 from Hamish Goldie, South Bowerhouses, Ruthwell. Easycare ewes sold to £126 from Bidlake.
Rams sold to £230 for a Texel from W&A Bridgewater, Borthaugh, Roberton.
