Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 9,859 sheep comprising of 5,547 prime lambs, 4,312 cast ewes & rams and 43 cast cows and bulls at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 15th December 2022.
A larger entry of 43 cast cows and bulls was forward to a busy ringside of six active buyers, therefore ensuring all classes were in demand for a mixed show forward. The sale topped at a marvelous £2,375 for British Blue x bull from R & J Lines, Killocraw, Bellochantuy, who also sold British Blue cows at £1,519. Angus topped at £1,459 from S Brash, Castlehill, Peebles with others to £1,395 and £1,224 from G MacKellar, Ardacheranmore, Glendaruel. Limousins sold to £1,222 from W Jones Ltd, South Muasdale, Tarbert, £1,128 from RL McCrindles, High South Muasdale and £1,092 from Sorbietrees Farm Ltd, Newcastleton. Simmental cows sold to £1.213 from JA & E Dinwoodie, Archerbeck, Canonbie with Charolais to £1,120 from Ardacheranmore and Beef Shorthorns sold to top of £1,181 from South Muasdale.
Top price per kilo of 218p for an Angus consigned by G MacKellar, Glendaruel with British Blues to 217p and 214p from Killocraw, Argyll. 200p was achieved for a Charolais from Ardacheranmore with Beef Shorthorns topping at 189p from W Jones Farms Ltd, who also sold Limousins at 188p.

A smaller show of 5,547 prime lambs was forward. Still a mixed show forward, with well fed lambs reaping the rewards. Heavies and the better end of commercial lambs looked to have the trade of the day, numbers are wanted over the next fortnight as demand looks set to stay.
