Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 9,216 sheep comprising of 5,997 prime hoggs and 3,219 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 2nd February 2023.
Another mixed show of predominantly lean cows forward, yet all classes still remain wanted with more numbers sought after on a weekly basis to meet buyer’s requirements here at Longtown. The sale topped at £1,680 for a Limousin from WN Douglas, Catslackburn, Yarrow with top per kilo of 178p for a Limousin from E Wilkie, Shaw Cottage South, Lockerbie. Simmental cows to 174p from Waterhead of Dryfe, Berryscaur.

A larger show of 5,997 prime hoggs was forward and sold to an increased ring of purchasers ensuring that; against national trend, all classes upheld last week’s rates of return and trade being a long way in front of other centres this week. Light weight lambs were in demand and keenly sought after by several purchasers. A similar show of 3,219 cast ewes and rams was orward. Hill ewes met an increased demand as numbers tightened, other ewes maintained last weeks rates of return.

Hill ewes to £98 for Cheviots from Spital Tower Agriculture, Spital Tower, Hawick.
Rams sold to £180 for Texels from J Stephenson & Sons, West Millhills, Haydon Bridge.
