Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 7,732 sheep comprising of 4,326 prime hoggs and 3,406 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 4th May 2023.
A larger show of cast cows and bulls was forward. Although a mixed offering, all classes remain in demand with more numbers required on a weekly basis to fulfil buyer requirements here at Longtown. A fantastic run of Irish Limousin cows from N McBurney, Moorfields, Ballymena topped the sale at £2,002, £1,987 and £1,814 with Angus selling to £1,764 from TN Cavers & Co., Sorbie, Langholm and to £1,649 from Craig Farm Co., Langholm.
Top per kilo of 288p was achieved for a smart Limousin from Balsalloch, who had others at 252p, 248p and 246p. Angus sold to 180p and 176p from Sorbie with Herefords selling to 174p from J Johnstone, North Howes, Annan and to 172p from N Retson & Co., Maidencots, Abington.

Top price per head of £200 for Beltex shown by CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries with Texel hoggs also selling at £200 from AR Bell & Son, Kirkton, Hawick.
Top per kilo of 378p again for Beltex hoggs from SA Lawson, Huntly Lodge, Huntly.
Many more can be sold to vendor advantage on a weekly basis. The trade is set to stay, and potential vendors are once again urged to take advantage of this trade.

A larger show 3,406 cast ewes and rams forward selling to increased rates of return leaving customers delighted with there days trading. Numbers looking tight nationally for next week and demand remains strong which will result in trade firming again. All classes of cast ewes and rams are wanted for next weeks sale and will be sold to vendor advantage.
