Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,486 sheep comprising of 2,034 prime hoggs, 722 spring lambs and 3,730 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 15th June 2023.
Cast cows easily maintain recent high rates, more numbers required on a weekly basis. The sale topped at £1,548 for a Limousin cow shown by Shankbridge End Farm Ltd, Shankbridge End, Hethersgill. Angus cows to £1,504 from JA & E Dinwoodie, Archerbeck, Canonbie who also sold Simmentals at £1,483. Top per kilo of 215p and 209p from Archerbeck.
A smaller show of 722 spring lambs forward, less quality forward and meeting slight resistance but easier sold than other centres earlier in the week. More lambs are required for next week’s sale and will be sold to vendor’s advantage.
Top per kilo of 379p for Beltex lambs shown by CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries who also went on to top the price per head with Texel lambs selling to £160.
