Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 5,512 sheep comprising of 1,434 spring lambs and 4,078 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 4th July 2024.
A smaller show of cattle forward, trade remains buoyant with more numbers required on a weekly basis to satisfy buyer demand. The sale topped at £1,605 for an Angus from RJ Anderson & Son, Penchrise, Hawick.
A larger entry of 1,434 spring lambs forward to the same ringside of purchasers with trade being less on the week but better than other centres earlier in the week.
Top per head of £176 for Suffolks from KJ & CS Wilson Ltd, Wood Farm, Thursby with top price per kilo of 359p for Beltex shown by J & A Moralee, Hardriding, Bardon Mill.

A much larger show of 4,078 ewes were forward, to an increased purchaser enquiry ensuring all classes still sold to vendor advantage, with 370 ewes selling at £200+. More required for the coming weeks sale as demand is set to continue.
The sale topped at £300 for Texel ewes shown by A & HC Smith, Crumhaughhill, Hawick, who’s consignment of ewes went on to average a staggering £249.24.
Hill ewes sold to £140 for Cheviots from JM Craig, Back Newton, Twynholm.
Rams to £235 for Texels from Viewley.
