Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward an entry of 10,428 sheep comprising of 6,117 prime lambs and 4,311 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 12th December 2024.

Cast cows continue to meet a competitive trade with more numbers required on a weekly basis to satisfy demand. The sale topped at £1,485 for a Simmental from Archbank Farming Co., Moffat with Angus selling to £1,384 from Messrs Hewson, Jerriestown, Carlisle. Top per kilo of 218p from Jerriestown.

An increased show of 6,117 prime lambs were forward to the same ring of competitive purchases with all classes selling to last weeks rates of return. Mule ewes sold to £190 consigned by A & T Wilson, Baryerrock, Whauphill.  

Hill ewes topped at £145 for Cheviots from from E Findlay, Daill, Isle of Islay

Blackfaces ewes selling to £136 from RW & M Carruthers, Hill Brae, Penton.   

Rams to £235 for Texels from R Crichton, Nether Locharwoods, Ruthwell.
