Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward an entry of 10,212 sheep comprising of 5,861 prime hoggs and 4,351 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 13th February 2025.
A mixed offering of mainly hill bred cows forward, trade remains competitive with buyers keen to purchase. The sale topped at £1,948 for Angus shown by TN Cavers & Co., Sorbie, Langholm who sold others at £1,663. Limousin cows sold to £1,883 from H Graham, Holme House, Walton which also achieved the top per kilo of 258p. Angus to 232p and 216p from Sorbie, with Herefords selling to 191p from Messrs Smith, Whiteknowe, Penton and Whitebred Shorthorns to 188p from G Bell & Co., Bloch, Langholm.
A larger show of 5,861 prime hoggs were forward to a full contingent of purchasers ensuring all classes maintained last weeks high rates of return. The sale average of 336ppk included 2,402 hill bred hoggs. All classes, breeds and creeds are sold to vendor advantage at Longtown and numbers are handled with ease. Export hoggs and lightweight hoggs are in big demand and numbers actively sought after for next week’s sale.
The sale topped at 463p for Beltex shown by C Heslop, Lords Lot, Hexham.
Top per head of £245 for Texels from CD Scott, Falla, Jedburgh.
