Longtown Pedigree Sheep to 2,900gns
Suffolks led the field at the annual “July Jewels” sale of pedigree breeding sheep at Longtown on Monday with a gimmer from the Powys based Bridgeview flock of D.P. & R.A. Delves selling at 2,900gns. This daughter of Benedyglen Boomerang out of a homebred ewe by Lakeview Harbinger went to Sean O'Gorman, Dublin for his Rose Lodge flock. Messrs Delves sold another Suffolk gimmer, by Bridgeview the Joker, at 2,000gns, also to Mr O'Gorman.
Overall ten Suffolk gimmers and ewes averaged £1,246 with others selling to 800gns, Bridgeview and 800gns (twice), Solwaybank. Suffolk ram lambs sold to 500gns, Solwaybank.
A good entry of Texel gimmers met selective demand with buyers for the mid-quality sheep exercising some caution.
Gordon Gray's Ettrick flock took the equal top price for a Claybury Dunkirk gimmer by a Midcombe Brigadier dam. She sold for 1,700gns to Leigh Smith and Joanne Huddart, Hensingham, Whitehaven for the Majestic flock.
David Preacher, Holylee, Walkerburn also sold at 1,700gns with a Sportsmans Cannonball daughter, from a Milnbank Wisconsin ewe going at this price to William Leggate, Silver Rigg, Chapelton, Lanarkshire. Mr Preacher had another full sister at 1,000gns.
The Alpha Texels entry, from Michael & Guy Reed, Plumbland, Aspatria made to 1,300gns for a gimmer by Auldhouseburn Billy The Kid, bought by Messrs Dixon, Cowburn, Lockerbie. Other Texel gimmers went to 800gns, 700gns and 650gns, from James Hair, Drumbreddan and 750gns from James Porter, Saltcotes. Overall, 41 Texel gimmers averaged £575. Beltex gimmers topped at 600gns and 580gns from Mrs M Dunlop, Corstane.
