Kelso Ram Sale 2022
C & D Auction Marts Limited were privileged to sell 467 rams of all breeds at the Solantel Kelso Ram Sales on Friday 9th September 2022.
167 MV Accredited cross bred rams were forward in ring 3, with quality being the flavour of the day, best rams having numerous customers chasing them.
The highlight of the sale was the pen of Beltex x tups from Alfie & Ann Taylor, Heathery Hall, who led the C&D consignment three times at £2,000, all for bare skinned shapely rams with power in abundance.

155 registered Charollais rams were forward in ring 6, with again demand for quality rams from consistent pens in demand, the four-figure barrier was broken 9 times. For the first time a show of Charollais rams was held on the Thursday evening, with the show being sponsored by Tarff Valley and ably judged by Mr D. Phipps, Godolphin, New Market. He selected his champion a shearling ram lot number 1889 from Logie Durno and reserve champion the first placed ram lamb lot 1829 from Runningburn, this ram lamb later led the sale proceeding at £1,700.

Another fantastic entry of first quality cross bred rams were on offer in ring 16, a full ringside of purchasers ensured all breeds of rams were well bid for. Topping the sale at £2,600 was a Beltex x ram consigned by D Hodge, Dykes Farm, who also sold another ram to £2,300, this very well-bred run of rams averaged £1,146. A total of 21 rams broke the £1,000 barrier, achieving an overall average of £698 and a clearance rate of 91%.

A small but quality offering of Texel rams in ring 19, the pre-sale show championship was kindly judged by G. Sinclair, Crookston, who awarded his champion to lot 4166 consigned by Mr S Turkington, West Lodge South, which later sold for £1,600 to Hexham based purchaser Messrs Johnson, High Fotherley. Mr Turkington’s rams went on to average an impressive £1,200. Achieving a clearance of 98%.
