Annual Kintyre Sale 2023

Anderston Park, Campbeltown

On Saturday 16th September, C & D Auction Marts held the annual sale of rams and breeding sheep at Campbeltown for the Kintyre Agricultural Society. 

Trade was strong throughout for the quality entry of stock and an almost total clearance was effected.  Buyers were present from a wide area for the show of rams which were ably judged by Stewart McMillan.

Overall champion was a Texel two-shear from John Pirie, Macrahanish which sold at £900 to Messrs Gemmill, Ifferdale.

The £1,000 mark was reached twice – firstly for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling from Robert Semple, Dalbhraddan which went to Messrs Ralston, Rhoin, and secondly for a Suffolk shearling from N. McArthur, Highbank Park, purchased by Messrs Millar, High Cattadale. All breeds of rams met strong demand.

A nice entry of breeding females were well sold with gimmers to £200 for Blackfaces from Brennanlea and £180 for Mules off  Glenahervie.  Ewes went to £215 and £190 for Bluefaced Leicesters and £150 for Texels, all off Dalbhraddan with Blackface ewe lambs topping at £80 from Coulinlongart.
