Longtown Store & Breeding Cattle Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc held their fortnightly sale of Store & Breeding Cattle at Longtown on Tuesday 16th September 2014.

A catalogued entry of 212 store cattle, plus a selection of unentered cattle, saw a fantastic show in front of a full ring of buyers, ensuring a flying trade for all classes.  Bullocks topped at £1,195 and £1,185 (x2) for great Angus’ from Messrs Butler, Beckfoot, with heifers selling to £1,030 for a Charolais shown by R. Johnstone, Kimmeter Green.  Limousin bulls sold to £910 (x2) from R.W. & F. Hickson, Woodhouse.  Many more required to fulfil demand.

A good entry of 45 breeding cattle met an excellent trade, seeing a full ringside of keen bidders ensuring all customers went home delighted.  The highlight of the sale was the dispersal from A. & A. McNeil, Toftholm, with their run of Angus cows with Limousin calves topping at £1,900, £1,880 and £1,800 and the cows with calves averaging £1,680 with incalf cows levelling at £1,016.
