Longtown Store & Breeding Cattle Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart plc had forward 67 store cattle and 65 breeding cattle at their fortnightly sale on Tuesday 9th June 2015 at Longtown Mart.
A nice show of 67 store cattle met a flying trade and surpassed vendor’s expectations, many bidders going home empty handed. The sale was topped at £1,180 for a Charolais heifer sold by Gretna House Farms, Limousin heifers sold to £1,080 and £1,060 shown by Messrs Littleton, Highmoorhead and bullocks to a top of £1,020 from J.A. & D. Forster, Gillalees.

The monthly sale of breeding cattle saw an entry of 65 head sell to extreme rates. The sale highlight was the dispersal from Richard & Pat Armstrong, Slealands, Longtown. Their run of 30 plus Limousin cows with Limousin calves averaged £1,860 and topped the sale at £2,400 for a 5 year old Limousin cow with Limousin bull calf. The 6 year old Limousin bull went on the sell at £5,800.
