Longtown Store & Breeding Cattle Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited held their fortnightly sale of store cattle at Longtown on Tuesday 2nd February 2016.
A small entry of cattle were offered to a large company of local and distant feeders, trade was strong throughout with demand for young cattle unquenchable.
Alex Smith got the sale started, selling his dairy bred Blue steer at £1,015, this was followed by a tremendous pen of Continentals from Messrs Hepburn & Co., North House which topped at £1,005 for a Shorthorn steer. A pen of Charolais steers from the same home sold to £985, with his Limousin heifer at £945.
Younger cattle met a superb trade with 9 month old Charolais steers from Richard Storey selling to £900, with the sisters realising £810. Lord Graham of Holme House sold a nice load of 8 month old cattle around the £700’s. Duke Wigham brought some good square dairy bred Limousin which sold to £990, but pride of place must go to his Black & White steers, 16-18 months at £800. The sale finished with some Galloway x steers from James Latimer which sold to £965 with the sisters at £805.
