Longtown Store Cattle Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their fortnightly sale of store cattle on Tuesday 17th January 2017, with a catalogued entry of 349 forward.
A brilliant show of cattle was forward to the largest ring of local and distant buyers seen for some time ensuring one of the dearest trades seen so far this year, and many more could have easily been sold, with averages seeing a lift of £123.62 on the corresponding sale last year.
We would like to give a big thankyou to Mr David Dickinson who stepped in to carry out the judging at the last minute, in which he awarded the Championship to a superb Limousin heifer shown by A & A Ewing, Dumbretton, Annan, selling to top the sale at £1,300.

Out with the show Limousin bullocks sold to a top of £1,290 (x2) and £1,285 (x2) (12 months old) from WH & DA Gass, Nunscleugh. Limousin heifers sold to £1,240 from TL Hogg & Son, Ryehills. Charolais sold to £1,170 for both bullocks and heifers from RI & VA Telford, High Parkfoot. Messrs Vaughan, High Dovecote sold a Simmental heifer to £1,150 and a pen of bullocks to £1,140. Angus bullocks sold to £1,140 from CJ & BA Thompson, Edenbanks, with British Blue bullocks also topping at £1,140 from Messrs Gass, Nunscleugh. The bull section peaked at £1,120 for a Limousin from Messrs Ewing, Dumbretton, with British Blue bulls selling to £1,110 for five from J Retson & Son, Gardrum.
