Longtown Store & Breeding Cattle Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their August catalogued sale of 233 store & breeding cattle on Tuesday 20th August 2024.

The breeding cattle section topped at £1,750 for a Hereford cow with calf at foot from R Moscrop & Son, Border Rigg, Bewcastle, who also sold Angus cows and calves to £1,600.

Store cattle sold to packed ringside of potential purchasers ensuring all classes of cattle sold to vendor advantage. Trade peaked at £1,780 for an Angus heifer shown by JF & JK Hayward, Fell House, Hexham. Bullocks sold to £1,750 for a British Blue from CJ & NC Brodie, Allfornaught, Waterbeck with bulls selling to £1,610 for Angus from Fell House.

A & D Bell, Mossband Hall, Longtown sold an serious run of 14-15m old Limousin heifers topping at £1,610 averaging £1,531.

Trade of the day was with the yearling cattle, which sold to serious rates of return. Topping this section was a show potential 9 month old British blue cross heifer consigned by Reed & Hill, Lingey Field, Stocksfield realising £1,680. This run of 9-11m old cattle levelled at an eye watering £1,508.

Messrs TN & F Cowan, The Ash, Roadhead sold a lovely run of very well bred heifers topping at £1,680 for a 13 month old Limousin cross heifer, with their run of heifers averaging £1,454.

Messrs Baxter, Moss Side sold a run of very well bred Limousin cross calves topping at £1,440 and levelling at a super average of £1,312.
