Longtown Store & Breeding Cattle Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward a superb entry of 1,149 cattle at the Annual Kirkcambeck Sale on Saturday 19th October 2024.

A full ringside of purchasers ensured all classes of cattle were competitively bid for, albeit a two tier trade was witnessed with strong cattle being in demand whilst smaller weathered cattle proved difficult to cash.

Included in today’s sale was the Special Sale of Shorthorn cattle kindly supported by Morrisons. Topping this section was a pure bred Beef Shorthorn steer consigned by M/s Tailford, Gallawhill, Hexham realising £1,660 also selling a penful to £1,650.

Also incorporated in today’s sale was the prize show for the Whitslade Shield for the best heifers on show. The pre sale judging was in the very capable hands of Mr Andrew Ewing, Dumbretton who duly awarded his champion pen to the stylish Blue Grey heifers consigned by M/s Gemmill, Ifferdale, Campbeltown.

Heifers topped at £1,640 for a pen of pure bred Angus heifers consigned by M/s Hayward, Fell House, Hexham who’s run of heifers proved keenly sought after averaging £1,627.
Blue Greys sold to a top of £1,630 from JRF Pattinson, Hot Bank, Hexham with Galloways peaking at £1,370 consigned by G & K Gilligan, High Creoch, Castle Douglas.
