The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 1,549 store hoggs and 629 in lamb ewes & hoggs at their Sale at Longtown on Tuesday 4th March 2014.
Store hoggs a useful entry with all classes easily maintaining late high rates. Top of £88 for Texels from Upper Tofts, others £87 Hopestead; Suffolk £78.50 Muirfield and Bloch; Charollais £76.50 Moss Side; Beltex £75 Burn House; North Country Cheviot £75 Satchells; Greyface £69.50 Barnshangan; Hampshire £68 Dyke; Hill Cheviot £66.50 Burnfoot of Ewes; Blackface £58 Gate House; Swaledale £47.50 Brigg.
Cast ewes to £69 Newton, hill types £56 Thompson Wall.
Cast rams to £72 Newton.
In lamb sheep attracted a good company of interested buyers, all classes proved good to sell and short of requirements.
In lamb hoggs to £138 for Cheviot Mule from The Gall who also sold Greyfaces at £120; Suffolk x Mule £124, £120 (x2) Tone Hall.
In lamb ewes carrying triplets to £125 for Texel from West Shipley who also sold Swaledale at £100; Suffolk cross £106 Muirfield who also sold Greyface at £100. Hill Cheviots scanned twins to £81 Mid Harrietsfield, £77 Priesthaugh. Hill Cheviots scanned singles to £71 Mid Harrietsfield, £66 Priesthaugh.
