Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 386 head of ewes with lambs, also 335 store hoggs at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 1st April 2014.

Ewes and lambs a nice entry met an excellent trade, more could easily have been sold to vendors advantage. Top of £64 per life for Texel ewes with twins from Longrigg; Greyfaces to £51 Hesket House and Barnbackle; Cheviot £46 Eastfield of Wiston; Blackface £42 Sunnyside.

Ewes with singles to £64 Longrigg; Greyface £51 Barnbackle and Hesket House; Blackface £38 Sunnyside.
In lamb Texel ewes to £126 and £120 Mossband House; Charollais £76 Haithwaite.

Store hoggs forward in smaller numbers and met another strong demand. Top £80, £79 for Hill Cheviots from Mainside; Suffolk £77 Foulshields; Texel £77 Foulshields; Blackface £67 Catslackburn, £57 Foulshields; Herdwick £64 Rowhead; Swaledale £51 Stonehall.

Cast ewes to £89 Eastfield of Wiston, hill types £58 Halterburnhead, cast rams £48 Halterburnhead.
