Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 1038 head of ewes and lambs, also store hoggs at Longtown on Tuesday 15th April 2014.

A good show of ewes and lambs attracted plenty of buyers. Trade again sharper on the week.

Top was £66 and £64 for Texel ewes with singles from Garden Cottage; Greyface £60.50 Garden Cottage.; Suffolks £66 Cannerheugh; Easycare £49 Whitcastles.

Ewes with twins to £66 for Suffolk crosses from Cannerheugh; Texels £62.50, £62 How; Greyfaces £57 Mossedge, Barnbackle & Cowrigg; Cheviots £49 Whitcastle.

Store hoggs met a strong trade.

Top price per head was £80 for Texels from Eastfield of Wiston; Suffolks £75 Solway Bank Cottage; Greyfaces £71 Bankend; Blackfaces £70 Whinneyknowe; Herdwicks £63 Burnthwaite; Zwartbles £70 Wallridge Cottage and Swaledales £50 Bank End. Cast ewes £72 Garden Cottage.
