Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 4,829 store lambs and breeding ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 19th August, 2014.
A large quality show of store lambs again attracted more buyers, with trade as dear as ever.
Top of £70 for a Charollais from Greenwell Meadows; Texel £67 Auchenhill, £66.50 Sheepriggs, £66 Crindledyke; Suffolk £67 Greenwell Meadows, £63.50 Abbey Moss; Beltex £64 Mains and Sharplaw, £63.50 Murtholm; North Country Cheviot £59.50 Humbleheugh, £59 Hownam Grange; Lleyn £59.50 Dolphinston; Cheviot Mule £55 Meikle Whitriggs; Blackface £34 Kilmichael.
At the special sale of Mule lambs, a great entry sold exceptionally well to a top of £61.50 from Baggarah, £58.50 Crindledykes, £54 Sunnyside.
Cast ewes to £58 Fell View.
Breeding ewes were a small entry, all were easily sold with many more needed. Top £127, £125, £124 for Mule shearlings from Englishtown. Ewes sold to £108 for Cheviot Mules from Glenmaid. Ewe lambs to £68 for Cheviot x Suffolks from Tarrasfoot.
