Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 7,286 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 9th September, 2014.
A large show of lambs attracted a full ring of buyers, trade was very similar with the exception of strong lambs, as a result of prime trade.
Top was £70 for a Texel from Hole of Lyne, others £68 Winshield and Stonehall, £65 Toftholm; Suffolk £63 Faugh Beeches, £61 Gillalees and Wester Alemoor; Bleu d’Maine £61 Royalty; Beltex £59 Sharplaw, £58 Winterhope; Lleyn £56 Espland; Charollais £54 Castle Farm; Greyface £53 Auchengruith and Crindledyke, £52 Townshields; Romney Marsh £50.50 Rammerscales; Swaledale £32 Merryknowe; Herdwick £31 Dumfries Estate.
At the first sale of 2,882 Hill Cheviot and Blackface lambs, there was a quality entry with buyers out in force, trade was slightly dearer on the year. Top of £60 for Hill Northies from Hownam Grange and East Murton, £59 Bradley and Kelsocleugh, £58 Gillesbie Farm. Hill Cheviots to £56 Hindhope, £55 East Deloraine, £54 Carterton. Blackfaces to £55 Fenwick Farm, £54 Dunshield.
Cast ewes to £61 Wester Alemoor.
