Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart plc had forward 2,221 store hoggs and feeding ewes at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 17th February 2015.

There was a similar entry of Store hoggs with more distant buyers to the fore and, as a result, all classes met the dearest trade of the season. Many more could have been sold to vendors' advantage.

Top £79 and £71 for Suffolks from Keepershield and £73 Newbigging; Texel £78 Hightown, £77 Carruthers, £76 Dykehead and Keepershield; North Country Cheviot £74.50, £72 Carruthers; Greyface £74 Wardrew, £72 Keepershield and The Bog, £71 Lowes, £70 Auchaleek; Charollais £70 Cottage Farm; Blackface £68 Drummuchloch, £67.50 Albie Rigg and Wardrew; Kerry Hill £67 The Hagg; Masham £67 Cottage Farm; Hill Cheviot £67 Damhead; Lleyn £66 Hesket House; Swaledale £65, £61 Keskadale, £60.50 Brigg.

At the Special Sale of in lamb ewes and shearlings, held today, there was an entry of 1,665. 

An exceptionally large crowd from near and far was present to witness a first class show of in-lambers.  Trade was electric from start to finish with trade exceptional. 

The dispersal of 962 Easycare shearlings in lamb from Lapwing Lamb Ltd, Holmes Farm, sold to a top of £125 for a pen of 40 carrying twins, £100 for a pen of 32 carrying a single and £116 for a pen of 24 triplets, overall average was £103.78 for 962 head.
