Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart plc had forward 1,093 store hoggs and ewes with lambs at foot at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 7th April 2015.

Store hoggs continued to sell very well with late rates easily maintained.

Top £87 for Texels from Coolingel; Beltex £75 Shoestanes; Suffolk £75 Pawston; Blackface £72, £68 Carnavel, £66.50 Lochenkit; Greyface £67 Coolingel; Herdwick £66, £56, £55 Rowhead; Cheviot £63 Coolingel, £62 Hawthornbank, £61 Embley.

Cast ewes to £87 Shaw Cottage, hill types £88 Girnwood, cast rams £93 Coolingel.

Ewes with lambs sold very dear from a packed ring of buyers, numbers far short of requirements. Top £77 each for Texel ewes with singles from Sharplaw Farms who also sold doubles at £66 each. Greyface ewes with twins to £54 each Low Closegill. Greyface geld ewe hoggs to £80 Croft Cottage and Blackfaces to £68 Carnavel.
