Longtown Bluefaced Leicester Sale Report

C & D Auction Marts Limited held its Annual Show & Sale of Bluefaced Leicester rams, ram lambs and females on behalf of the Bluefaced Leicester Sheep Society at Longtown on Wednesday 16^th September 2015.

A catalogue entry of 81 sheep saw trade steady throughout with only the best kinds easily sold and the others remaining hard work, just as the trend has been this season.

The sale was topped at £500 for the reserve champion overall and champion male, a ram lamb from Mosser Mains Farm, Cockermouth and purchased by R Fraser, Sunnyside, Penton.  This was by the E1 Red Cottage sire.

The presale show, which was sponsored by Wm. Armstrong & Son, Longtown and Natural Stockcare was ably judge by Miss Hazel Brown, Leadburnlea who awarded the overall championship to a ewe lamb from first time consignor Messrs R. McTurk, Barlaes, Castle Douglas, which went on to realise £450 to J.D. Livestock.

Shearling rams – 1^st Westend (£350), 2^nd – Mosser Mains (£450), 3^rd – Old Church (£300).

Ram lambs – 1^st Mosser Mains (£500), 2^nd – Barlaes (£300), 3^rd Nisbets (£350).

Gimmer shearlings – 1^st Shielsknowe (n/s), 2^nd – Shielsknowe (£220), 3^rd – Alnmouth (n/s).

Ewe lambs – 1^st Barlaes (£450).

Male Champion – Mosser Mains (£500).

Reserve Male Champion – Westend (£350).

Female Champion – Barlaes (£450).

Reserve Female Champion – Shielsknowe (n/s).

Overall Champion –Barlaes (£450).

Overall Reserve Champion –Mosser Mains (£500).
