Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 4,733 Store Hoggs, Cast Rams & Ewes at their Special Sale at Longtown on Tuesday 5th January, 2016.

A very good show of hoggs attracted a gigantic ring of distant buyers together with locals. Trade was the highest prices of the season, many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.

Top £77.50 for Suffolks from Ramshope; Texel £76.50 Barend, £75 Newton Cottage, £74.50 High Wood; Beltex £71.50, £69.50 Pallet Hill; North Country Cheviot £64 Carruthers, £62 Preston Mains; Cheviot Mule £63.50 Routin Lynn; Lleyn £63 The Height; Greyface £61 Newton Cottage; Blackface £54, £50 Roxburgh Mill, £53.50 Crookburn, £50 Skelfhill; Hill Cheviot £52.50 Craiglearen, £52 Bloch, £50 Clerkhill; Swaledale £40.50 Coldshield; Herdwick £39 Farlam Hill.

Cast ewes to £68 for Texels from East Middle with hill ewes to £44.50 for Blackfaces from Bowan Hill.

Cast rams to £95 for Charollais from Harper Hill; Texel £87 Drumblair; North Country Cheviot £83 Marchbank; Leicester £80 Deadwater; Hill Cheviot £77 High Thorneyburn; Blackface £70 Drumblair and High Thorneyburn; Lleyn £68.50 Dolphinston; Swaledale £59.50 High Thorneyburn.

An excellent consignment of mainly correct below in lamb Texel cross and Greyface ewes from East Mains. Trade was hesitant with all getting nicely sold. Top of £85, £82, £80 (x2) for Texel crosses with Greyface to £80 (x5) and Texel hoggs to £80.
