Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 2,290 Store Hoggs & Feeding Ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 1st March, 2016.

The dearest trade of the season was witnessed with best quality hoggs selling at premium.  Many more numbers required.

Top of £92 for Texels from Millriggs, £90 Kilnhill; Beltex to £86 Kilnhill, £82 Cadgillhead; Charollais £86 Eastfield of Wiston, £83.50 Kilnhill; Suffolk £76.50 Eastfield of Wiston, £74.50 Millriggs; Hill Cheviot £75.50 Priesthaugh, £72.50 Cowburn; Blackface £75, £68 Townshield, £61.50 Teinside; Easycare £74.50, £70 Croys Lodge; Cheviot Mule £69.50 Bloch; Greyface £68.50 Compstone End and Poltalloch; North Country Cheviot £68.50 Dalemaketharn, £66.50 North House; Lleyn £67.50 Dalmakethar; Herdwick £62.50 Sherwens Terrace; Swaledale £45 Firs; Shetland £40 Kernal Hill.

Cast ewes to £74 Glenapp Estate who sold hill types at £56 and cast rams at £76.50.

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 740 head of breeding sheep, including the reduction of 550 in lamb stock sheep on behalf of Annandale Estates, at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 1st March, 2016.

A busy ring of local and distant buyers ensured a buoyant trade and vendors went home with prices well above their expectations.  The sale topped at £117 for a Cheviot Mule shearling carrying Texel twins from Annandale Estate who sold 550 sheep to average £103 per head, principal prices:-
