Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 4,238 Store Hoggs & Feeding Ewes, also breeders at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 8th March, 2016.

With more distant buyers present and a massive show of hoggs forward, trade was fantastic with all classes at extreme rates.

Top of £84.50 for Charollais from Messrs J.J. Butler, Kirndean, Newcastleton; Texel £82 Cottage Farm, £81 Millriggs; Beltex £81 Allfornaught and Riggshields; Blackface £78.50 Kirndean, £64.50 Miltonise; Suffolk £74.50 Glentoo and English Hill, £73.50 Brewery House; Greyface £71.50 English Hill and Culdoach; Hill Cheviot £70.50 Allfornaught, £69.50 Clerkhill; North Country Cheviot £67 North House; Half Bred £67 Marwhirn; Kerry Hill £61.50 Derskelpin; Swaledale £54.50 Coolingel and Baljean; Herdwick £34.50 Rowhead;

Cast ewes to £83 Coolingel, hill types £65 Pennygown, cast rams £80 Croys Lodge.

Breeding sheep were an excellent selection, trade very good.  Top of £102 for in lamb Greyface shearlings from Waterloo.  Geld ewe hoggs to £74 and £70 for Lleyn from Height Farm.  The first of the season ewes with lambs forward sold to a top of £52 each for Lleyns with lambs from Low House.
