Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 991 Store Hoggs & Feeding Ewes, also 1500 inlamb ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 29th March, 2016.

Store hoggs were a smaller entry, but still a big trade and many more could easily have been sold.

Top of £87 & £85 for Charollais hoggs from T Dixon, Wyndham Terrace, Egremont, others to £79.50 Moss Side and £78 from Wyndham Terrace; Texel £81.50 The Dabbins, £80.50 Halliburton; Suffolk £69.50 Keepershield; Beltex £76 Gass; Half-bred £67 Keepershield; North Cheviots £67.50 Gass; Greyface £67 Cooks House; Cheviot Mule £68.50 North House; Hill Cheviots £71.50 Bloch; Blackface £60.50 Lawesknowe; Swaledale £51 Keskadale Hill; Herdwick £43.50 Rowhead.

The highlight of today’s sale was the part dispersal of 1500 in lamb ewes on behalf of Lynwill Ltd, W.L.E. Christian Ellerslie, Marown, Isle of Man. A packed ringside of both local and distant buyers saw all ages sell well above vendors expectations, with the sheep looking in excellent sale condition, with many men going home empty handed. The sale topped at £140 for a pen of Texel 2 shear ewes carrying twins, selling to Messrs Dodds, Keepershield, Northumberland. Overall average for 1500 sheep was £101.21.
