Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,985 store lambs at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 20th September 2016.

Another large show with quality not as good, but with the usual buyers to the fore, all classes met a fast selling trade at similar rates.

Top of £80 for Beltex from M Potter, West Fell View, Kelleth, Penrith, others to £76 Greenwell Meadows.

Texels to £71.50 East Foreshield, £71 Stone Hall & West Fell View, £70 Bloch & Lower Ashtrees.

Suffolks to £66 Vallance Drive, £65.50 Satchells, £65 Clarghyll. Charollais to £65 Bloch and £63 Dougarie Estate. Greyface to £62 from Hightown & Butterdales, £61 West Fell View. Cheviot Mules to £57.50 from Satchells. Kendal Rough to £35.50 The Park. Swaledale to £32 Border Rigg.

The 2,521 Cheviot lambs attracted more distant buyers, top quality lots were dearer with others similar. Top of £67 for Hill Northies from Bradley, £64 East Murton, £63.50 North House, £63 Twislehope. Hill Cheviots to £63 Skelfhill, £60 Glendinning & Hindhope.

The 1,501 Blackfaces met a strong selling trade with prices unchanged in the week. Top of £56.50 for a quality pen from Skelfhill, others to £50 Earlshaugh & Auchengruith (BQ).
