Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
STORE LAMBS
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,316 store lambs at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 27th September 2016.
A similar show of lambs attracted Welsh buyers for the first time. Medium lambs much sharper, all other classes similar.
Top of £74.50 for Texels from JA & D Forster, Gillalees, West Hall and Danny Creer, Cooilingel, others to £73 High Lovelady Shield. Beltex to £68.50 Sharplaw Farms. Suffolks to £72 High Lovelady Shield and £71 Cooilingel Farm. Charollais to £62 Tarrasfoot. Greyface to £64.50 Penpeugh, £59.50 High Lovelady Shield and £58 Carnavel. Cheviot Mule to £60 Glenkiln. Kerry Hill to £57.50 Newbiggin and £55 Stockwell Hall. Swaledale to £33 Hesleywell. Shetland to £52 Cronklea.
Feeding ewes to £58.50 Wester Alemoor. Hill types to £47.50 from Penpeugh. Cast rams to £109 from Crindledykes.
The 1,708 Cheviot lambs met a similar trade with strong pens easiest sold. Top of £64 for Hill Cheviots from Skelfhill, others to £60 Glendinning and Twislehope. Hill Northies to £61 from Lymiecleugh.
The 1,585 Blackface lambs met a fast trade with strong lambs again easiest to cash. Top of £53 from The Lamperts, £50 Sundhope and Black Mountain Farms, £49 Whintingstown.
BREEDING SHEEP
C & D Auction Marts Limited had an excellent entry of 3,286 breeding sheep of all classes forward at Longtown on Tuesday 27th September 2016, where a packed ring of buyers ensured a buoyant trade throughout with a near total clearance.
In the ram section, 56 head topped at £400 for a Charollais x Beltex shearling from R & M Paterson, Upper Auchenlay to Messrs Smith, Cocklakes, Penrith.

In the female section trade was fast all day resulting in the sale being topped at £165, £158, £155 and £152 for pens of Texel ewe lambs from regular consignor A R Bell & Son, Kirkton, Hawick, who averaged £152 for 77 head.
