Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 3,647 head at their weekly sale of store hoggs, cast ewes and rams plus Inlamb sheep at Longtown on Tuesday 31st January 2017.

A top quality entry of hoggs for the time of year attracted the usual buyers. Previous weeks high rates were easily maintained with all vendors delighted with their days trading. Top of £74.50 for Texels and £74 for Charollais from Nether Locharwoods (Crichton), other Texels to £73 from Partridge Nest.

Beltex to £70.50 Crosshill. Suffolks to £70 Kirkton Hill. North Cheviots to £67.50 North Synton. Cheviot Mules to £59 Marwhirn. Greyface to £62 Blakehopeburnhaugh. Hill Cheviots to £62 Halterburn and Blakehopeburnhaugh. Blackface to £59 Westerhall Farms, £56.50 Argyll & Lochaber Estate and £54.50 Brown Hill. Kendal Rough to £57.50 Gill Head. Swaledale to £55 and £50 Nether House.

Cast ewes to £60 Newham Hagg. Cast rams to £58 Balker Farms.

Inlamb ewes were a smaller and moderate show which attracted several buyers. All were cleared in a good trade. Top of £90 for Suffolk crosses from Whitegates.
