Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 406 store hoggs & feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 11th April 2017.

For the time of year, buyers are still keen for store hoggs and late rates easily maintained. Top of £70 for a Texel hogg from New Farm, Beattock, others to £65 Burn House. Romney crosses to £64 New Farm, who also sold Suffolks to £61.50 and Charollais to £62. Greyface to £50 Cottage Farm; Blackface to £41.50 Cottage Farm; Swaledale to £45.50, £44 and £43.50 Ottercops; Herdwick to £32.50 Middle Row; Cheviots to £56 Alton.

Feeding ewes to £45 from Archbank.

A larger show of 167 ewes with lambs at foot were forward. Plenty quality outfits on offer and a full ringside of bidders created a great trade, with plenty interest especially for ewes with stronger lambs. Many more could be sold to advantage. Sale topped at £78 a life for Texel two shear ewes with single lambs.
