Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 5,405 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 5th September 2017.
Store lambs in general were a poorer quality show, however buyers were keen to purchase with best lambs of all breeds a similar trade on the week.
Top of £77 for Beltex from CD Sharp, Lower Ashtrees and Texels from Brieredge Farm and others to £75 Lower Ashtrees, £ 74 The Crook and £71 East Middle.
Suffolks to £73 Satchells. Cheviot Mules to £63 Liddesdale House. Charollais to £70 Mosside. Zwartbles to £61 The Crook. Greyfaces to £68 & £67 & £60 Horsley Hill. Swaledales to £34 Racy Ghyll. Herdwicks to £28 Racy Ghyll.
Feeding ewes to £70 Coolingel with hill types to £36 Crindledykes. Cast rams to £37 Auchencairn.
At the opening sale of 1423 Hill Cheviot and 832 Blackfaces, a good show forward although strong lambs scarcer, buyers selective with most farms £2 to £3 per head less on the year.
The sale topped at £57 for Hill Cheviots from Hindhope, £55 Twislehope, £53.50 Carterton.
North Country Cheviots sold to £56 Hownam Grange, £54.50 Effgill, £51.50 Commonside.
Blackfaces sold to £48 High Thorneyburn and Crindledykes, £44 Drumlanrig Mains, £43 Balmurrie.
