Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had 2,510 store hoggs & feeding ewes and rams, together with 268 in lamb ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 13th February 2018.
An exceptionally good quality show of hoggs for the time of year attracted the usual large contingent of distant buyers. Trade was easily the dearest so far and nice to see vendors taking advantage of these extreme rates.
Top of £106 and £104 for Texel hoggs from Mosshouses, others to £88 Townfot and £87.50 Channel Well. Beltex to £87 Nether Albie and Townfoot, £84.50 Newbiggin. Suffolks to £79 Channel Well, £75.50 Whitegates and £73.50 Ryehills. Greyface to £69.50 Gillalees, £69 Barnshanghan, £68.50 Mains of Collin & North Ghyll Bank. Cheviot Mules to £68 Marwhirn and £66 Whitegates & Teinside. North Cheviots to £73 and £69.50 Marwhirn, £70 and £67.50 Nettling Flatt & Buchtrig. Beulah to £69.50 Howcleugh. Hill Cheviots to £63 Blakehopeburnhaugh and £61 Brigg. Blackface to £67 and £64 Drummuckloch. Swaledale to £58 Gillalees and £50.50 Brigg. Kendal Rough to £45 Gill Head. In lamb ewes were a nice show and with many prospective buyers in attendance. All classes proved good to sell and short of requirements top of £130 for both Texel and Greyface from Kirkandrews with ewes to £112 for Cheviot Mules from Morebattle Tofts, who also sold Hill North Cheviots at £90 and in lamb Easycare hoggs at £85 and £80.
