Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 876 store hoggs & feeding ewes and rams, 153 in lamb ewes and 365 ewes and lambs at foot at Longtown on Tuesday 10th April 2018.

A nice entry of hoggs for the time of year attracted the usual buyers, trade remained at extreme rates. Top of £116 & £113 for Texels from Calvo, others to £104 Wardrew. Suffolks to £100 Stockdale, £99 Linton, £95 Falnash. Charollais to £103 Stockdale. Hill Cheviots to £98 Blackhall, £96.50 & £90 Falnash. Half-Breds to £88 Mains of Machermore. Greyface to £102 Baggarah. Jacobs to £108 & £103 & £102 Wardrew. Cheviot Mules to £82 Stockdale. Leicesters to £107 Baggarah. North Cheviot to £102 Archbank. Blackfaces to £86 Wardrew, £82.50 Linton, £80 Lawesknowe. Herdwicks to £65.50 Pow Heads. Feeding ewes to £95 Stockdale, cast rams to £91 Ramshope.

A consignment of 153 in lamb North Country hill Cheviot from Mr W. Robertson, Kilfinnan attracted a lot of interest selling to a top of £74.

A much larger show of ewes with lambs at foot met a fast trade, animated trade for ewes with strong lambs that were full of milk, with smaller lambs slightly harder to cash. More quality outfits required to fulfil buyer’s requirements. Ewes with lambs sold to a top of £75 a life for a 3 crop Texel ewe with twin Beltex lambs at foot from K. MacIntyre, Downan Farm and to £73 a life for correct below Texel x ewes with single lambs.
