Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 197 store hoggs and feeding ewes together with 1,345 ewes and lambs at Longtown on Tuesday 8th May 2018.

Store hoggs again met a very strong trade and short of requirements. Top of £101 for Suffolks from Tower Farm and Texels from No. 3 Baurch, others to £94 Stanley Road. Greyface to £86 Lowes. Blackface to £98 and £79 Fell of Lochronald. Swaledale to £68 and £63 Bankend. Clun to £82 Hallsford and Cheviots to £70 No.3 Baurch. Feeding ewes to £92 Stanley Road, who also sold cast rams at £87.

Another enormous entry of 1,345 ewes and hoggs with lambs were forward, with more buyers present which ensured a great trade, with all vendors going home delighted. Included in the sale was the Annual Show and Sale of hoggs with lambs at foot, with these classes being judged by Mr James Latimer.

Out with the show, ewes with strong lambs sold exceptionally well and to a top of £102 a life for a Beltex ewe and lamb from J Hope, Orthwaite Hall, who sold others at £96 and £90, plus a pen full of Suffolk ewes from Messrs Corlett, Skiddaw View again sold well at £84 a life.
