Show & Sale of Pedigree Suffolk & Texel Sheep

C&D Auction Marts of Longtown conducted their 3rd Annual Show & Sale of MV Accredited Pedigree Suffolk Rams and Females, together with a small selection of Texel females on Monday 16th July 2018.

Champion lot 44 from Sullom sold for 750 gns

A smaller than usual entry of 56 sheep was forward with many useful quality commercial rams and a great show of females.

The sale opened with the Suffolk females which topped at 1,000gns for the 2nd prize gimmer from I & J Barbour, Solwaybank, selling to Amable Muniz, Lgar Vegona, Portugal.  Other gimmers sold to 400gns., 380gns. & 350gns., all from Tom Redmayne, Gowan Bank, Kendal.

The sale topped at 1,200gns for lot 32 a ram lamb from Solwaybank, which was a Strathbogie Sirius son out of a ewe by Rhaeadr Rastafari.  After spirited bidding, the hammer was knocked down to Messrs Threlkeld, Bowkerstead, Ulverston.

The overall Suffolk champion was lot 44, a smart ram lamb from Messrs Richmond's Sullom flock from Goosnargh.  A Deveronside Doodlebug son out of a Castlewood champion ewe, after much interest, he sold to Messrs Kirby, Barstow Hall, Northallerton at 750gns.

Suffolk shearling rams sold to 550gns for a Lakeview Lucas son from B. Teasdale, Ousby, Penrith.

A small show of Texels were forward selling to a top of 850gns for a Glenside bred ewe from Iain Barbour, Solwaybank, this ewe sired by Strathbogie Python was purchased by Iain as a foundation ewe and sold over the telphone to Danny Devlin, Quarry House Texels, Ireland.  Other Texel ewes sold to 520gns.
