Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward an entry of 2,680 store hoggs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 19^th February 2019.

A smaller show of hoggs attracted more competition with all classes again remaining very dear. Best Beltex and Texel hoggs all sold over £80 to a top of £90 for a single Beltex from Messrs Smith, 20 Islestone Drive, with others to £84 Ericstanes & £80 Keskadale Hill. Texels to £86 Triermain, £85 Swaites, £80 High Stenries; Suffolks to £73.50 New Farm, £70 Mains; Romneys to £61.50 South Slipperfield; Greyfaces to £72.50 Gill Head, £67 Old Police House & Low Dunasherry; Blackfaces to £67.50 Gobergrennan, £65.50 Collin Bank, £60 Emblehope & Penpeugh; North Cheviots to £78 & £75 & £70 Ericstane; Hill Cheviots to £70 & £67 Millriggs, £67.50 Shawhill; Swaledales to £47 Coatlith Hill, £43 Hamilton Drive, £42 Gill Head; Kendal Roughs to £50 Gill Head.

Feeding ewes (290) a good trade. Sale topped at £71 for a Texel from New Farm. Greyfaces to £61 Monk. Hill ewes to £44 for Blackfaces from Merkland and £40 from Saddell Home & Hamilton Drive; Swaledales to £33 Monk. Cast rams to £58 for Cheviots from Greenside.
