Longtown Border Breeds Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd held its Evening Prize Show and Sale of Border Breeds of choice in lamb females and ewe hoggs by registered sires, comprising of North Country Cheviots and South Country Cheviots on Tuesday 19th February 2019.
This year’s sale included a show held by the South Country Cheviot Sheep Society, ably judged by Mrs L. Luescher, Megdale who professionally cast her eyes over the three strong classes placed in front of her, with the championship being awarded to the 1st prize ewe from RH Paton, Castle Crawford and Reserve Champion to the 2nd prize ewe from IHG Warden, Skelfhill.
Topping this year’s sale was the overall reserve champion consigned from Skelfhill realising £750, this one crop ewe was sired by Potholm Forceful, carrying twins to the Homebred son of Cnewr Ambassador and after determined biding was sold to the judge Mrs L. Luescher, Megdale, Langholm.
The overall Champion followed up realising £500, this four-crop ewe sired by Stirkfield Sinatra carrying twins to a Home Bred Son of Castle Bulldozer was consigned by M/s RH Paton, Castle Crawford being purchased again by the judge Mrs L. Luescher, Megdale, Langholm
The North Country Cheviot section was very ably judged by Mrs J. Jackson, Ericstane, who after dissecting three very tightly fought classes awarded the championship to the 1st prize gimmer from Philliphaugh Estates and the reserve champion to the 1st prize ewe from M/s KO Stones, Nun Cote Nook, Richmond
